When you teenager dates someone too young
I have a son who just turned 19. He tends to date girls younger than him. He says the law in Florida says you can date 16 year olds up until you are 23. I disagree. Right now his girlfriend is 17. I think he is safe there. They keep changing the laws and I get confused. I don`t wnat him to get in trouble. But you know teens, they know it all right? He has already had to deal with one mad dad a few years ago for dating a girl too young for him. He was 16 she was 14. Iv`e got to find out what the law is in Florida. I try the internet but I come up with different answers. Anyone know how I can find out for sure? Call the police station? Ask a cop? What ?

I don't think 17 is too young. I'm not sure the laws in Florida though. I thought it was 16? I'm surprised that he wants to keep dating girls that young and that their parents let them date a 19 year old.

The age difference between those two is nothing major. Today teens date from 13-19 and even wider age gaps. There is usually no issue until sexual intercourse is involved. That is when the law rolls into play. "Dating" isn't a major deal, its the other things that cause the issue I think.

That`s the part that worries me. He does use protection, but , as us older more wiser people know that is not 100% safe. I have told him that her parents may not object to the dating until you get her pregnant. Then big bad daddy will be out looking for you. 17 is not an issue as far as that goes.I just hope he stays with girls that age or older.
