Cutting a date short

Let's say that almost right away you realize that the date isn't going well. What is a nice way to end the date so you can go do something else?

I have an emergency phone call that comes in so that I can get out if I need to. A woman I worked for many many years ago suggested this when I went out with someone I had met online. I've only done it once.

First thing.. I would say why would you go or plan for a date which can take longer than 20 minutes to half an hour? Most important rule of the online dating... never ever go for a long date - Avoid movie kind of date from where you can not cut the date.

I would recommend if you are meeting someone from online dating then Go for short and sweet date like -- coffee shop etc...

I really wasn't talking about online dating but more about dating in general. However, the advice that has been provided is really valuable. The tip about getting an emergency cell phone call is a great one.

I would just say that it was fun talking with my date but I have an event to attend after this with my girlfriends or guy friends, have a good night. Is that wrong?

I do the emergency phone call thing all the time. And, sadly, I have used it to escape more times than I care to count. I usually arrange for it to come about an hour into the date. I figure no matter how much of a turn off the guy is turning out to be, I can struggle through an hour to make it look legitimate. Just make sure whomever you use to make the call is reliable. I had a girlfriend who forgot one time and I ended up having to deal with an ego maniac for several hours.

I always have a friend call me every date. This is my way out. I should every first date not every date. If it's not going well, it is my way out. There is an emergency. If it's going well, I tell them things are good and I will call them later.

I have used the phone call before as well. I have also used the "I'm not feeling so good" before too. There has only been the 2 times I have had to get out of one that I thought was going that bad though.
